With gameplay similar to Uncharted and a storyline that moves along at a quick pace, Dark Void is a solid action game.

Typically, when you think of action games, Uncharted and Halo come to mind. Both franchises have huge fanbases and big production budgets. So, with a game like Dark Void, you can basically expect the same thing, right?

No, not exactly.

Dark Void might as well be an idie game, when it comes to that aspect. The voice work, graphics, and gameplay all seem borrowed. The storyline, which takes place in the early 1920s, is about a man who finds himself stranded in the Bermuda Triangle, who uncovers a dark secret. This is probably the most original aspect of the game.

The aforementioned voice work is good, but generic. The main character in this game is voiced by the same guy who voiced Nathan Drake (surprise, surprise). This isn't a bad thing, it's just it would be nice if this game innovated in that aspect. The same can be said about the graphics.

The gameplay is decent. Zooming around in your jetpack is a blast, and shooting from the air is occasionally fun, but the targeting system is awful and the shooting in general is boring. The controls are stiff and help out the gameplay quite a bit.

In short, Dark Void is a solid shooter with few ideas to call its own, but is enjoyable for what it is: a forgettable actionier.

.................................................................................................................

Story- Nothing earth-shattering, but original and captivating enough

Graphics- Grainy and generic up close, but on a grand scope quite impressive

Gameplay- A mixed bag. Jetpack missions are the best part of the game

Sound- Good voice work, but once again, it's unoriginal. The game is almost devoid of music, which adds some much needed tension to an unchilling plot

Controls- Sharp, tight, smooth. No problems here

Overall opinion- 7.5 - Rent It
