A great idea, but poorly executed. But...still fun.

I'll be frank. Darkest of Days has a wonderful concept idea that sadly didn't go well from paper to gameplay. You play as a soldier who was plucked out from certain death at the last moment. And of course because someone misplaced your papers, you don't actually exist, making you perfect as a lackey.

You'll visit many great battle locations. The Civil War, both World Wars, including a fun prison camp level and even a roman era type level. But what makes these levels the most fun? Bringing future weaponry into the mix. Nothing beats bringing out an assault rifle and unleashing hell upon lined up Southern rebels and watching them simply melt under the hail of death. Or using a mortar type rocket launcher on attacking German troops during World War 1. These moments, if few, are some of the truly shining moments of the game.

The graphics are bland, but aren't bad if you compare them to other games released for this new gen of games. The sounds likewise could use improvement, but don't diminish the overall gameplay.

This is one of the games if your willing to overlook its hiccups, will give you several hours of fun gameplay. It had problems, but its enjoyable.
