User Rating: 8.5 | Darksiders PC
If you are a PC gamer, then over these years, specially these past few years, you've probably realized that one of the disappointing things about PC gaming is the lacking of "God of War style" games compared to the consoles. The only games i remember played in this style on PC, was Devil May Cry 4; which was a very good game ... then there was GOW 3,Star Wars TFU, Bayonetta , Darksiders, Castlevania ...coming for consoles but not PC.
Every time I watched and still watch their game play videos specially God of War 3's, I envy the PS3 and Xbox owners, and curse myself for not having one. if you like this genre then you probably know how I felt and still feel...
After some time Star Wars TFU came for PC but with all it's fun it turned out to be a terrible and disappointing port with lots of performance problems.
When I first heard Darksiders is coming for PC as well, I said to my self "yeah, another terrible port" but fortunately I was VERY wrong :
The extremely beautiful art design is the first thing that catches your eyes, the graphic looks absolutely gorgeous; the environments are well designed and although it's an open-world game it runs quite smoothly and almost without frame drops even in the most crowded sequences. unfortunately because of not having any graphic settings except a resolution option and a vertical sync, you need to have a decent system. Of course combat is another great feature of this game ; Weapons are really cool and have lots of varieties; even those for solving puzzles are exciting and appealing to use. Speaking of puzzles, they are very well designed, some of them(specially in the second half of the game) are very challenging and some rewards that they give worth every seconds of your time thinking. but the most important thing about puzzles is that they are in their right place. The main sword that you carry through the entire game never gets boring thanks to lots of weapon customizations and abilities that can be added to your main and other weapons plus the different attack moves that can be unlocked by gaining more Blue souls via killing enemies and finding them in chests. Now combine all of these with great(but sometimes a little bit unresponsive) controls; you no longer need to punch your keyboard like you did in DMC4; everything happens smoothly with mouse and keyboard.
Enemies look very nice and their A.I. is quite good, some of them are challenging and thanks to the large variety of attack moves and some finishing moves(a different finishing move for each type of enemy) battling them and tearing them apart is always a pleasure. bosses are massive and each one is different from another and require a different tactic and weapon to kill. fighting them is another enjoyable part of the game.
The music and sound effects are also very good and suits the game well, but the voice acting could have been a lot better.
Unfortunately the biggest downfall of Darksiders is the story so if you are looking for a rich and exciting one you won't find much here, it's shallow and characters are easily forgettable.
Overall Darksiders is a great game that has taken lots of ideas from others in the genre(specially GOW), IT'S NEITHER A REVOLUTION NOR AN IMITATION, it's a great game with lots of promises...
This is not only a great example of God of War but also a perfect chance for PC gamers to try this genre.
