Third person button mashing that won't dissappoint.

I really enjoyed Darksiders. If you enjoy the action packed 3rd person slashers like god of war and ninja gaiden then you will probably get a kick out of this one. The biggest problem Darksiders has is its a little too derivative. Once you start playing this one you will recognize that it borrowed heavily from a number of different sources. That doesn't stop it from being a good game. However, it won't blow you away or cause you to say "Wow, I've never seen that before." You play as one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, War, go figure. The story is as follows: you are set up as having started the end times before all of the signs had arrived. This causes your banishment, but you are given the chance to redeem yourself and set things right. The story is kind of slim and shaky. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense sometimes. The game's visuals are beautiful. Its full of awesome colors and wonderfully varied enviroments that always keeps you interested. The map is decent, but sometimes it was easy to get turned around or lost in certain areas of the game. Although its a good looking game it does suffer from some minor framerate issues and very regular screen tearing. The enemies are imposing and many. There are some impressive boss encounters and they cause you to have to do some decent strategizing. Your character will develop a number of upgraded abilities throughout the game. Darksiders also has a number of enviromental puzzles that make good use of the abilities you earn as you progress. There are also a reasonable number of hidden items scattered about that help keep you motivated to explore. The music in the game is not memorable. I did enjoy the voice acting in this game(including Mark Hamill) I felt like the controls were responsive enough if not a little overly complicated to be truly intuitive. The difficulty is appropriately challenging.

Summation: A good looking 3rd person hack and slash that doesn't break new ground, but never fails to entertain.
