I expected something like Freelancer, but this game ended up being quite lame. I cried for hours.
Controls:
Speaking of joysticks, DarkStar One supports them, but the controls are horrible. You can customize them to an extent, but there are one or two missing options that completely destroy the fun of flying with a joystick. I was still having to use both mouse and keyboard along with the joystick, which made using the joystick actually worse than just using a mouse and keyboard.
Graphics and sound:
The graphics are nice, at least in comparison to Freelancer, but I thought it was semi lacking in style. The sound isn't horrible, but it isn't deep and immersive like that of Freelancer.
The bottom line:
The game fails to give you that "I'm actually a space pirate" feeling. It shamelessly imitates Freelancer, but does it poorly. I think they just put together some fancy graphics to lure Freelancer fans into buying it, which seems to have worked quite well.
Until next time....
