Wild West, Vampires and Rose Mcgowan....
User Rating: 8.5 | Darkwatch PS2
I always had this obsession about playing FPS on my PS2. It was impossible... Compared to the accuracy of a mouse on a PC, it was pure torture for me to try to aim and blow any poor sob's head off on PS2. Afraid of the dire consequences of playing FPS's on PS2, I gave up on this innocent inclination. That is until Dark Watch. A game that is so easy to play yet still kinda challenging and addictive at the same time. You play as Jericho Cross, an outlaw who happens to free the prince of darkness (a simple guy with wings actually... Well he looks a little like the creature from jeepers creepers but in my opinion not that much of a threat for the humanity). This prince of darkness guy (I will name him bishop 'cause I feel like it...) kills the hot chick that's trying to help you. Now Jericho must join the Dark Watch and close the gate between hell and earth to send the creatures of the night back to hell. Not that much depth, but who cares as long as there is a vampire outlaw tearing through hordes of undead with oldschool weapons that ejaculate manhood all over the wild west while two hot chicks root for you. Jericho doesn't talk that much but the two chicks (one is voiced by the lovely 'Rose McGowan') that try to manipulate the poor guy, do not shut up. And by the way Jericho looks a lot like the combination of Caleb from Blood, Hugh Jackman style Van Helsing and Vampire Hunter D. The Wild West background is simply amazing. It's almost always night and the levels are generally wide open areas to shoot out with your cool pistols or rifles or shotguns or whatever sadistic weapon you have on you at that moment. Melee attack is also another feature that is integrated in the gameplay almost more than any FPS to date. While shooting from afar, a sneaky minion will appear in front of you which will make you instinctively beat the crap out of him with your weapons hilt And believe me, you will do this a lot. There are also minor sections like horse riding or turret driving. These also handle quite well. The boss fights are not that easy but they sure can not be qualified as difficult. That Bishop guy is supposedly the biggest problem but even he doesn't cause much trouble. There is also a slight (actually that plot twist was screaming all the way from the beginning but whatever...) surprise at the end and a moral selection. The game is so fast and intense that you won't believe how fast the game ended until you realize that you haven't eaten anything like 8 hours or so. If you want to play something different than marines or special unit soldiers killing each other in tropical forests, spaceships or Africa(!), then this is the game for you. It is fast, wild, funny and entertaining.
