User Rating: 9.4 | Daxter PSP
Daxter for PSP is without doubt the best game you can find for the Pocket sized system. the controls work beautifully, it looks amazing, the storyline is great. it's got it all.
The game takes place between "Jak & Daxter" and "JAK II". jak gets captured by police and taken to jail and Daxter wants to save him. a quick cut scene tells us it's two years later and Daxter finds a Job as an exterminator still not having saved JAK. he is given an electric fly swatter and sent of by his boss Osmo. soon we meet taryn. a very mysterious and hot chick that Daxter never fails to smooth tal. she shares a passion in bug killing becuase new mysterious metal bugs are over running the city. we meet the evil bad guy who you think is involved and your suspisions are confermed. you also meet Ximon Osmo's son who helps him with the buisness, and helps you out in the game through multiple flying missions. you hop in to a nice red flying thingy and chase after bugs in a water filled valley where you drive and he blows them up. the gameplay in Daxter is beautifully done. the controls are a master piece. you move with the stick, attack with square, crawl on the flor in"Ottsel mode" with triangle and use your sprayer with circle. moving through the levels is good, the combat with enemies is great and that brings us to the dream sequences. the best part about them is they are optional. except for the first one which is a nice touch in letting you know what the dream sequences do to benefit you as well as a nice story touch. the sequences are parodies of popular movies such as, The Matrix, Indiana Jones, Braveheart, Lord of the Rings, and a couple others. you must use a combination of the face buttons and D-Pad to complete them and each one you finish, unlocks a new attack or increases health. these help out big time and a similar experience in the game is mandatory and this becomes a drawback. these buttons pressing sequences may remind you of hacking in a Splinter Cell game but these parts last to long and become frustrating and take multiple try's to do. the game would be better without these and this is the only major drawback of the game. the storyline is great, kiddy enough for the younger ones with plenty of humor and immaturity for the older crowd. but a few things are left unexplained. Taryn the mysterious girl who shows up and gives you weapon upgrades for the Sprayer pack. has no explanation as to who she is what so ever. she just shows up in a cut scene or two and gives you an upgrade. we don't know where she came from or how she gets the technology for the sprayer or why she is helping Daxter. although I'm sure Daxter's charms played a part in that. and the end of the final boss, which is awsome I might add, he says his mater will be waiting for you but when Daxter leaves him it just goes to the next scene where everybody is in a bar and it ends with Daxter saying, "and thats how I saved JAK *wink* ". after you beat the game thats it. their are spme things you can do like go back and complete any unfinished dream sequences and stuff like that. their is nothing to keep you playing and the game instantly becomes a shelf object. if you want a good game for PSP or a s a great gift get Daxter and you will be very glad you did.
