You'll be hard pressed to find a better portable platformer.
Pretty good doesn't describe it. First of all, and most noticeably, the graphics for this game are unreal. If not for the PSP-induced cramps in your hand, you'd swear you're playing on PS2 or XBOX. The environments are almost completely interactive, and the world you play in seams to go on forever. Load times between levels are practically unnoticeable.
The gameplay of Daxter is also fantastic. The controls are responsive and the gadgets this little ottsel gets to play with are loads of fun. Bug spray, flamethrower and sonic device will exact destruction on the insects you are charged with exterminating. Another thing you platform fans will notice is that the camera is very friendly. It works so much better than other platform games.
There are a lot of different actions that Daxter can take in the game. He sometimes rides on a scotter or a rocket, slides down tunnels and ziplines across levels. But the dream sequences are the best. Collecting enough eggs (?) will let you access dream sequences where you can improve your health or you attack skill. These sequences mock other movies, like the Matrix, Lord of the Rings and Braveheart. And while the sequences themselves only involve timing your button mashing, the setting makes it very enjoyable.
Daxter's issues are minor. The multiplayer is rather dumb and jumps can be hard to time. But don't let that stop you. This is a fantastic game, and while I still believe Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is the PSP's best, this game will appeal to a much broader audience. You can't go wrong playing or recommending Daxter.
