If there is one game that can easily define the series and be marked as its best, it would have to be DDRMAX2.
User Rating: 9 | DDRMAX2: Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix PS2
Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix was the finest game to grace the arcades in 2002. The original DDR games were weakened by technical limits, and DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution 6th Mix suffered from poor music variety, but DDRMAX2 was the first DDR game to be considered flawless. If there is one DDR game you ever play in your life, make it 7th Mix. The PS2 game was a smooth transition, with only minor problems, many of which were made up for by the increase in technical features. Gameplay: Same great DDR taste, now in a new container! Everything from DDRMAX carried over, such as the hold arrows and broad options selection. Also, Oni courses were put in to increase the difficulty for the masters. Graphics: The graphics weren't spectacular in DDRMAX 2, but then again, who really cares? The arrows look clean and the framerate is smooth, that's noteworthy enough. Also, the lovely background video clips from the arcade were carried over, and were sharpened up a bit. Sound: Eight words: The most beautiful tracklist in all of DDR. Sadly, almost all of the songs from previous mixes that appeared on the arcade version are gone, though a few remained. Also, some new songs were thrown in from DDRExtreme. Value: This is a game worth playing every day until you've lost 50 pounds. It is a game of the only series where playing makes you more athletic. It took me five years before my undying love for DDR shrank down, but I will still always play this game whenever I want to get up and move. Play this game forever. In fact, play it until it breaks. Defining Moment: Seeing a full combo AA on MaxX Unlimited.
