Great but with some bugs.

Nowhere near finished the game but I wanted to throw out my two cents for others who might be interested in the game.

I paid $40.00 for the game and have played it for the last couple days and I think it's pretty damn fun but it does have issues.

While I haven't encountered any corrupt saved games, others seem to have and for a $60.00, you should be able to play it without having your progress lost.

What I have encountered however is doing a mission and then being unable to finish it and then having to restart. One mission wast to get a can of gas, got it, drove back to base and it disappeared. Second was killing someone underground and then being unable to climb a set of stairs and getting stuck, leading to a restart. Those moments sucked but the missions weren't that hard to redo.

Another problem is the checkpoint save system. You can't really just save the game wherever you want, it saves at checkpoints and sometimes it seems like it didn't save where it should have. After the first patch, there was an exit option that wasn't there before and it kinda makes you wonder how the game got released without that there.

The online is where people seem to have trouble saving and as of right now, it's not worth the risk to play online if your saved games could get corrupted.

One of the reasons I got the game on pre-order was for the Bloodbath Arena DLC where you just fought waves of zombies. You get a code but the code isn't active and it says it'll be available shortly. A sure sign the game was rushed to market.

But these gripes aside, the experience that I've had so far has been amazing. It's a cross between Grand Theft Auto, Left 4 Dead, Borderlands and Fallout 3.

One great moment was having a zombie run towards me, then taking a swipe at it with a baseball with a buzz saw and cutting the zombies head off.

The pre-order came with a DLC code called the Ripper Mod that lets you make a baseball bat with a buzz saw and it's damn awesome, however I don't know how fun the game would be if you didn't get this weapon - probably not quite as fun. Although a clever that you get later on in the game, lets you hack heads and limbs off with ease.

A part of the game that I'm not crazy about it finding things, including money. You search bags, closets, corpses and find money and other items. It kinda breaks the mood when you have to stop, press square to examine something and then press square again to pick up something like deodorant or $16.00 or whatever. If I was trapped on an island with zombies, I wouldn't be too worried about deodorant or money but I guess that's the RPG element and some people like it.

I imagine there will be future fixes and if you haven't bought the game yet, I'd probably wait for another patch to be released to address the save issue. You don't want to undertake a game like this and have your save game corrupt.

A friend finished the game without any save game corruptions but he never went online. So it is possible to advance through the game but seriously for $60.00 saving your game should not be an issue.

There are plenty of YouTube videos with gameplay so you can see what you're in for. I had hoped for a Left 4 Dead clone but this game is so much more. There's no offline four player co-op like in Left 4 Dead but the whole experience is actually more than I expected.

I wish the game had been tested better before release but that's the way it goes and rather than moan, I'm going to keep playing and enjoying it (minus the odd bug).
