Dead or Alive 3 may have better graphics and slightly better game-play, but it's not particularly better than Dead or Alive 2. Dead or Alive 3 is basically are remake of its former self with better graphics, slightly better game-play but really, it's not that different except for a few more new characters and additional stages, but that does not mean it's a bad game, not at all. Dead or Alive 3 is just a very good game, just not as great as Dead or Alive 2.
Dead or Alive 3 has the same modes as Dead or Alive 2. Story, Time Attack, Survival, Tag Battle, Team Battle as well as Versus, Sparring and Watch, and is just as fun as the previous D.O.A. Story Mode, much like the last, is rather short, with a very disappointing boss battle but, Dead or Alive 3's strength lays within the other mode and battles with friends.
The controls are similar to the previous D.O.A. games so you want be unfamiliar with the controls, unless you've never played a D.O.A. game before. The game-play has slightly improved in speed and move-ability. Character react much fast and better then the previous D.O.A. games. The game does suffer from some frame rate, but otherwise ok.
There are 16 characters to play with from the start and like previous D.O.A. games; they all have their own moves and styles. Some are slower than others but more powerful.
Overall Dead or Alive 3 is a very good fighting game that's similar in quality to its predecessor, but you'll probably find yourself going back to Dead or Alive 2 more than you would Dead or Alive 3. If I had to pick between them, I would pick Dead or Alive 2, but still Dead or Alive 3 is a very good, fun, fighting game nonetheless.
