enjoyable content, but no lasting appeal
I recently came into the possession of the Dead rising 2, not my own purchase but a loaner from a friend. I had seen gameplay video before and had read reviews regarding the very inventive weapons system with the laugh factors of making a light-saber out of gems and a flash light, to the cringe worthy bucket o drills. Since I was feeling decidedly sadistic of late I decided to give it a whirl.
The main character is the hyper masculine Chuck Greene (although there was no constant cigar smoking a la Tychus Findlay in Starcraft 2, how that man didn't die within ten minutes from either lung cancer and/ or setting himself on fire I will never know). The character was not exactly out of place though as the game is inherently over the top in every dimension.
I have not played the original dead rising so am unaware of the story behind it but I found it slightly endearing how the main character was desperately just trying to look after his daughter. The first missions sets you off frantically looking for your daughter, getting here to safety, than finding her medicine. The story after that becomes quite fast and loose.
Dead rising 2 is quite an enjoyable game and i found the gameplay quite fun and interesting however it was never enough to keep me hooked or with enough interest to actually finish the story through. It tries very hard to make the game full of suspense with getting medicine, completing missions, and clearing your name within a time frame but in the end you don't really care.
While i do go back to occasionally play the game all the game is, is a fairly decent zombie game to fill any sadistic mindless urges that may pop up from time to time.
