A solid Addition to the Franchise

User Rating: 8 | Dead Rising 3 XONE

This 3rd edition to the dead rising franchise perpetuates the addicting and stylistic gameplay that most gamers have learned to love without making the mistake of losing originality as most similar games do. The time sensitive campaign thrives on genuinely captivating characters that accurately portray humanistic qualities, a trait that most games either perform inadequately or simply fail to provide. Some may say that even though the game gives a variety of devices to manipulate throughout the campaign the combat is repetitious and the storyline is overused. These are valid and reasonable complaints but are misplaced. The game style is purposely repetitive to initiate a trance like state of zombie slashing and hacking that stimulates the gamer's desire for carnage and destruction, a method that is proven to work and be enjoyable. If this is not your preferred style of gaming then you will most likely not be in favor of this game and contributing this as an excuse for a poor rating would be inheritably biased and unfair. The fact of the matter is that it falls under the category of a specific type of gameplay and does so eloquently. The story is admittedly overused and mundane but this should not cause rating degradation. The game is designed as a parody of unimaginative and dull zombie stories and does a good job doing so, therefor it is understandable if some people do not fully appreciate or realize the level of humor they try to display. Overall this game excelled in accomplishing its goals: it was an addicting gameplay with a hilarious cast and humorous storyline. I would personally give this game an 8.5 for its ability to solidly achieve its goals and preform well under the stress of being both the third installment of a successful franchise and a launch title game.
