When I finished the first dead space is left me hungry for more of that nice strategic dismemberment and horrifying atmosphere. Lucky for me dead space 2 was announced shortly after I finished the first. And man oh man was it worth the wait.

Enter Isaac Clarke, an engineer sometime in the far future who's seen his share of freaky stuff in the first game. Haunted by ominous visions of his deceased girl-friend Nicole Isaac is once more sent catapulting without warning into the horror fun house of necromorphs. Necromorphs are disgusting shambling deformed husks of their former human selves and they want nothing more then to rip poor Isaac apart. Luckily Isaac happens to be the most bad ass engineer ever and won't go down without a fight.

Dead Space 2 plays identical to its predecessor which is good because it handles just fine. The real shining shimmering splendid dead space 2 has to offer is the fantastic atmosphere in which this horrifying tale unfolds. The lonely halls and rooms make you feel truly alone. Each environment tells a story, like the shopping mall: Obviously once quite a busy place is now empty with papers scattered about. Or the school that once housed young children during the school hours now turned horrifying maze of terror.

I don't think I need to mention that the slicing of enemy limbs is extremely satisfying. There's nothing quite like taking a sawblade and cutting off the deformed necromorph's legs then proceeding to stomp his brains in. In that sense dead space 2 makes the cruel person within us all cackle with maniacal glee. And the best part is you don't feel guilty after since you know that the necromorph would have done the same to you.

The story to dead space is nothing short of amazing. Though it may be hard for those who didn't play the first game to line the pieces up those who did play it will know exactly whats going on.

The multiplayer is a nice addition to the already great game. It's thrilling to play as both the humans trying desperately to complete objectives while racing against the clock , and necromorphs who's only job is to hinder the humans efforts at all costs! It's easy to pick up and play but hard to master. Strong strategy is vital to both humans and necromorphs if you want to come out on top.

Horrifying atmosphere, chilling story, satisfying game-play and an amazing multiplayer mode make dead space 2 a triumph among the survival horror genre and I recommend it without pause to anyone who has the stomach for it.
