It is obvious that Dead Space 2 is a high quality title, right from the smooth hassle-free install into the first desperate, heart pounding, mind bending minutes of game play. Yes, your Momma will hate this game. Don't expect to have your little hand held during the intro sequence; it's sink or swim right from the start. I barely had time to drool over the high quality character models or admire the spooky lighting effects when it became apparent that my immediate survival depended entirely upon my ability to GTFO - as in Feets Don't Fail Me Now! I'll be honest ...I didn't make it the first time. Here's a novelty; dismembered during the 'tutorial' part of the game! This is your first clue - 'Dead Space' is not just a catchy name, and if you are to survive you need to bring your 'A' game. Whether or not one finds this title horrifyingly scary, for certain it is intense. As much as I'd love to keep playing hour after nail biting hour, I need to quit and take a break from the constant focus on staying alive. Although there are many 'jump out from the dark' surprises, many of the encounters are predictable for veterans of survival horror titles, and this does diminish the 'scare factor' somewhat. True fear is inspired by uncertainty and tension, and sometimes going without an encounter for a while can effectively ratchet up the suspense. My only quibble with the otherwise excellent graphics is the seeming inability to achieve FSAA, even though it is offered in the Options. Truth be told, you won't even notice after a while since being a tourist is just not viable here. Save Points (how I HATE this system!!) are spaced just far enough apart to give real urgency to your missions without being unduly punishing, and I found the upgrades for the suit and weapons generally kept the critters from feasting on my mortal remains. Usually. The abominations you regularly encounter are, like the previous title, appropriately gruesome and well animated. There are a few new baddies to contend with, but all your favorites are back including the annoying beastie that keeps resurrecting its buddies, and the dudes with explosive pus-bag arms. My advice to anyone reading this humble two-cent review is : 1. BUY THIS NOW! 2. DON'T TELL YOUR MOM 3. PLAY AT NIGHT WITH THE LIGHTS OUT 4. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS HOW FREAKIN' COOL THIS GAME IS
