The bar has been set, to games in the Horror/Survival Series.
You venture onto the USG Ishimura to respond to a distress signal, only to find monstrosities of what used to be the former crew attacking you. Let me go over the good and bad.
The Good:
-Outstanding Graphics: All of you PS3 owners can really appreciate having HDMI. Absolutely outstanding, I would problably rate it top 5 out of all the PS games i've played. REALLY adds to the horror environment as you navigate through the ship.
-Reality of Death/Horror: How much more gruesome can it get? Really, walking down a long hallway with a human shadow banging its head against something, to find it being a wall to death. CREEPY. And of course the walls are covered with the crew of the Ishimura and other grotesque imagery. You are pretty much left to fend for yourself while your team is off solving other problems on the ship.
Gameplay/Arsenal: Introducing the new dismemberment system, you have weapons that are designed to help you aim for the limbs of the monsters to increase damage. Also you have a wide-variety of weapons to use to survive the onslaught of monsters. Also gameplay is smooth, with an interactive menu that shows as a hologram display and puts an end to the 'pause menu'.
In-Depth Story: From picking up Audio Logs of crew members on the Ishimura, to following Isaacs own story keeps you glued, even when you give up you still want to keep going as so many question marks beckon to be answered.
The Bad:
No Multiplayer: Where this game fails, is where Resident Evil 5 has succeeded. Survival/Horror games, IMO, have been much more enjoyable either playing with a partner, or even AGAINST them.
Recommendation for the Future: I wont knock points off of the game on this, but it would be a good idea that monsters would randomly attack you from different points of the game. Because if you play the game over again, you pretty much know where the monsters spawn and surprise you from. No horror game seems to achieve this yet so its why im not downing it, but you can hear things creeping around you at times, but you wont actually get attacked until you go into certain rooms/places. It would be a great addition to add a whole new level to horror games.
Overall great horror game, the single player being by yourself gets to me a little bit more than your average gamer, but I gave it a "Great" rating to be fair/unbiased as possible.
