An epic revisit to this highly underrated franchise! Don't believe the critics or the ongoing smear campaign!
The next eight weeks is bringing one of the best periods in history for new game releases.... hoping that developers have spent near to as much time on innovation and creativity for their titles as Dead Space 3 has, instead of just helping to administratively bash this title on hopes that those with limited budgets will be guided to other titles.
On the game - superb, shocking, horrific, incredible story, exceptional pacing, this is a true winner! An exceptionally worthy sequel to an already sound franchise that will not disappoint.
I played it on PC, tons of graphical support and options to really make this shine. Excellent player control, depth of story, sounds, combat, pacing, difficulty options (I played on Hard my first rip through - a must for those who want some consistent challenge). Unequivocally one of the smoothest third person shooters out there, equally enjoyable for console and PC.
For PC users some quick additional pointers to help ensure the current trend of console porting doesn't leave you high and dry:
1. Shift is the key to rappel side to side, along with the respective direction key (A for left - D for right). You'll need this later in the game and it was not very clear in its directions!
2. You can sell all of your unwanted upgrades, circuits, and attachment / tool components! Not very clear or straight forward in getting there.
3. Often Overlooked!!!! - You can adjust your Upper Default Tool Tip on the PC by clicking W and D simultaneously (to represent upper corner direction). This is how you build weapons with adjusted configurations - took me awhile to figure it out as it was not clear cut with instructions!
4. I remove Blur/Bloom - not sure what the obsession is with this clarity killing option that I believe first surfaced heavily around the first release of Guild Wars... Tons of graphical options though for PC users, just select customs, and make sure you click all the way through the resolution settings! On first glance and click through it seems like it is limited as the interface is a bit slow in updating the resolution options as you click through.
The above is the extent of any issues or confusing factors I saw.... First run through on hard took about 25 hours.... This is excellent value for one of the most unquestionably immersive games I've ever played. This is like a 24 hour "live inside the movie" experience, and one you are not likely soon to forget.... Excellent addition to the franchise and a superb candidate for Action/Horror Game of the Year for 2013!!!!
