Death Jr II on the PSP brings the signature character from the first adventure back to the portable format in style. This episode keeps the familiar feeling from the first game, but fixes many of the flaws. Visually, the game is beautiful. The cartoony graphics are very vibrant and do a great job of setting the tone of the game. More impressively, the game manages to keep the high quality graphics without the usual loading screens framerate issues. The sound is also well done. The effects fit the atmosphere, and the game uses voice actors who seem to actually care about the characters material. Too many otherwise great games are ruined by lackluster voice perfromances or boring text screens. The gameplay is a solid mix of platforming and run-and-gun action. The camera is much improved from the first installment, and the controls are well thought out and responsive. The game offers multiple difficulty settings, and there are ample cheats available. The gameplay shouldn't be too frustrating for any gamer, but these additions make it so anyone can finish the game and have fun doing so. The game includes a stronger story than you find in most games in this genre. While nothing in the the game is revolutionary, everything aspect shows high production value. Personally, I think the critics just scored this game as average beacuse it wasn't completely groundbreaking. In my opinion, not every game has to be a completely new experience. All in all, this is just a fun little shooter/platformer. It may not have the recognizable characters from Ratchet and Clank or Daxter, but the Death Jr. Series is starting to make a name for itself. Anyone who would enjoy some quick and fun actiion would do well to check this title out.
