Good PS2 port, but not the same.
This game was a great PS2 game in 2004. There is a brand new story on the main character who is you. The sory line is about the prequel to the first Def Jam game. It was an okay story but we're really worried about gameplay, right?
There is a new gamplay mechanic in Def Jam. There is the new mechanic called "ground-n-pound". This mechanic lets you jump onto the opposing characters and beat him into the grounf it actually fun to do, but afterwhile it gets boring and you don't find yourself doing it often. I kinda miss the old gameplay. You could run and grab and do a quick throw, but that's all changed thanks to the new mechanic.
The big disappointment in Def Jam is definitely the exemption of Wi-Fi gameplay with people on the Internet. As soon as I popped in the UMD I was saying, "I can't wait to play other people online." I say that there was only Ad-Hoc mode where you can only play your friends with the same game. Overall, this is a good title with over 59 characters and hip-hop artists with a few new items of clothing. If you have never played Def Jam: Fight for NY I say stay with the $19.99 version on the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube.
