Defiance: A New Hope (for consoles)

After scouring the web for reviews and being unable to find many I have decided to throw in my two cents. I have played the game for about 4 hours. I just wanted to give my initial impression because I know many people out there that are waiting on a review prior to buying the game.

First and foremost I believe that a avid gamer should play this game for the experience. It's a unique console experience.

I have a significant experience with MMORPGs. WoW, SWTOR, and GW2. My impression is that Trion took aspects and lessons from these games and made a console friendly third person shooter.

A person switches outfits, headgear, weapons, and shield, but there is no individual armor pieces. So people are generally in one of a few different outfits.

The story isn't as engulfing as say a SWTOR, but SWTOR set the bar extremely high for MMORPG main quest story lines so that isn't a huge knock. I would think that once the show comes out people will find themselves more immersed in the game.

There have been a lot of complaints about game mechanics and such. I am not seeing them and neither was my friend that I was partied with. It plays pretty smooth. Our only minor complaint was that sometimes seeing enemies was a bit difficult. The flow of the game will take a few minutes to get used to but it is smooth. Many people have complained about the vehicle play, it's not that bad but it is somewhat cantankerous.

Arkfalls are fun! One hits the map and people just converge on it. My experience was 10 players fighting off wave after wave of NPCs. It was a blast. It was nice for players to naturally converge on a spot and Trion did a good job in figuring out how to make that happen.

I can see how seasoned PC MMO-ers like myself can be a little down on this game. It doesn't play or feel like a PC MMO, I got it for Xbox in order to play with some friends I have on there.

Bottom Line: This game offers a unique console experience. I hope this unique pairing of MMO and TV series continues. It has a lot of potential and at this point it's worth a look.
