Delta Force: Black Hawk Down isn't the most impressive shooter; But it isn't the most mediocre either.
Single Player:
The single player wasn't awful, but it was underwhelming compared to the other Delta force shooters on the pc. it was very brief, a few missions were more challenging, and more exciting than others. Some missions would be very slow paced, then the next mission you would have helicopters chasing you with explosions everywhere. But, unfortunatley, this wasn't the case for the whole game, which it should have. The graphics aren't really up to date, which was dissapointing. Some textures didn't turn out right, and the overall look of the graphics just really didn't compare to other shooters of today. The characters faces and body models looked nothing like halo, or any other game. The graphics in DRIV3R were actually better than this. Which is a very strong statement. There was one thing that I must admit that looked pretty good, and that was the explosions. They were very realistic, for the most part. Overall though, the graphics were very dissapointing. There were a decent amount of weapons in the game. You can change classes and use shotguns, CAR15 assault rifles, AT4 RPGs, many different sniper rifles, huge machine guns, like SAWs, and many others. That was one strongpoint of the game. Also, the campain mode isn't just on foot, you get to use a few vehicles throughout, including manning a machine gun on a humvee, or loading up in a black hawk choppers and getting on the miniguns. Both of these guns fire pretty well from the vehicles. Getting in the black hawk was probably one of my favorite parts of the game. There is a soundtrack in the game, but it was pretty lame. You can't really hear the music too well and when you do, it just doesn't sound very good. The voice acting of the game wasn't too terrible. Some realistic orders are given and some cussing as well. Pretty much your typical military behavior. The main thig the single player mode needed was more excitement. Alot of it was just too slow paced and impatient players may get bored too quickly. the campaign mode was definitley worth playing for you modern combat shooter fans out there, but needed to be tuned up a little bit.
Xbox live:
The main reason I got the game. Black Hawk Down is able to play, an unheard of, 50 players online in one game. it does get a little laggy sometimes, but usually it isn't too bad. Massive battles include CTF, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and a few others as well. Very god map choices. They vary from how big your party is. most of the weapons from single player are put in Multiplayer. A few sniper rifles and gunner weapons were taken out. But for the most part, good weapon selection. You can get in humvees and black hawks online. (which is really enjoyable) Except for one thing, you can't actually destroy the vehicles. Actually, you can't even drive the vehicles. There are AI bots driving the vehicles around and you just hop in and they take off. That was very dissapointing. But it is still kind of cool to ride around in a chopper and kill enemies with your large minigun. Overall, the online multiplayer is worth the 50 bucks alone. It is chaotic, explosions everywhere, and vehicles running all around. As soon as you kill an enemy another one will be right behind him. So basically, the combat never stops. I enjoyed the xbox live greatly and recommend it to anyone who enjoys online FPS.
Conclusion:
Black Hawk Down's single player mode is underwhelming, but the xbox live is sure to make up for it, with its nonstop intense moments. for anyone who doesn't have xbox live, i can't recommend this to you. this game is strictly for xbox live users only.
