Why aren't more games like this?
"You already have a used copy?" I asked.
"Yeah. Somebody brought it back because it was too hard," he said.
I was hooked before I started playing.
Demon's Souls forces hard choices about how to spend your souls. It exacts harsh punishments for mistakes. Combat is fluid and complex - you get better with each battle and it shows. There are really scary monsters; the scariest are human invaders. Camraderie with co-op players is silent and almost sacred.
You have to earn every step you take in this game. I raised my arms in triumph after each boss, because they were so hard to beat.
The only drawback is finishing the game. You can keep playing at a higher difficulty (and I certainly do), but there are no more new places to discover. I would love to see a sequel or DLC.
Why aren't more games like this? Uncharted 2 looks cool, but you never fear dying like you do in Demon's Souls.
