Demon's Souls will eat you like a mid meal snack, but you'll beg for more.
My biggest high-five to Atlus (the team behind the Persona series) is that they're not afraid of the gamer. I'm sick of games pampering the gamer like a child in regards to playability. I think I speak for most hardcore gamers in saying, give us a challenge!!!
So you've heard about the insane difficulty in the game, but what's the big deal? Once you move beyond the difficulty and begin to immerse yourself in Demon's Souls, you find that you become a part of the world. You fear death, unlike most games where you don't care about dying (you'll just respawn at the last checkpoint, right?) and this is a wonderful asset to the game. In order to get through a level, you mustn't die. If you do, you will be respawned at the beginning of the level in a different form until you kill a significant Demon - which is a challenge in itself.
The enemies in Demon's Souls vary greatly. I was taken aback at the breathtaking graphics and fantastic detail that was paid attention to in this game. Dragons and the undead all look the part, act the part, and definitely fight the part.
The real time backdrops and large demons blew my mind as well as I played. I can't explain to you the fantastic feeling you get when you've defeated a difficult enemy or large demon, it is unmatchable. Due to the incredible intensity of the game, ever fight won is a victory. This is no Ninja Gaiden type slash em all up before they knew what hit them. This is a strategy RPG where every spell and slice must be prethought and planned. This is a game that any hardcore PS3 owner or RPG fan should definately own, but be prepared for a challenge.
