It tries so hard to be a wacky sandbox of destruction...never succeeds though.

Destroy All Humans! has such a precedent to live up to. In this world of GTA:SA and Mercenaries this game loses all its gloss very quickly. At its heart DAH is a simple third person shooter with a very good presentation. The over the top anti communist and B-movie vibe is fun and makes for an enjoyable pick-up, but the game has no real depth. Every action and gun feels very disconnected and weak. While mission variety breaks down to about 4 types, none of which are as fun as they should be. Admittedly, the whole time I was playing it I was comparing it to Mercenaries. But after you finish the missions in Merc. you feel like an action movie badass with bullets whizzing by and each gun having a real weight to them. After finishing missions in DAH I felt like, "huh that was easy"...the game never builds up any tension or sets you up for a monumental success. All said and done this game is the perfect example of a game that should be great but doesn't have that spark...that intangible piece that makes it truly amazing. At best this game is a rent.
