Aliens, G-men and brain stems oh my!

User Rating: 7.3 | Destroy All Humans! PS2
When most people think of aliens, large, cannibalistic aliens, or small, peaceful grays are the norm. The Furons, a blend of the two modern day interpretations are genderless and have survived throughout the centuries by cloning. By the 1950’s however, their DNA supply has become dangerously low and are on the brink of extinction until they discover the planet earth and more importantly humans. Deep within the confines of the human brain lay miraculously, strands of Furon DNA. This is where Cryptosporidium-136, the 136th clone of himself, appears. His flying saucer crash lands at a U.S. spacecraft launch and is discovered by American military personnel. This is where Cryptosporidium-137, our hero and main character enters the scene. He and his substantially more intelligent colleague Orthopox (Pox) are sent by the Furon emperor to invade the planet Earth and recover Crypto’s “brother,” all the while collecting human brains for the continuance of the Furon race.

Our hostile, brain loving, alien friend Crypto begins his invasion at the Turnipseed Ranch, humorously attempting to establish contact with the “intelligent bovines” in the area via his cortex scan ability, one of the five telekinetic abilities available. He soon runs into Majestic, a caricatured group of G-men led by the mysterious black-clad Silhouette, but not before he is confronted by the U.S. army headed by a pesky, overweight General Armquist. Flying across the United States, from Area 42, Santa Modesta, and Rockwell to Union Town and Capitol City, Crypto can wreak havoc and utter destruction on the human race from his specially equipped Furon saucer or run amok on land terrifying citizens with his Zap-O-Matic, Disintegrator Ray, Ion Detonator and trusty Anal Probe. In addition to the devious Furon weaponry already in his possession Crypto has several entertaining psychic abilities. Along with the aforementioned Cortex Scan, Crypto can use Psychokinesis, Hypno Blast, Brain Extraction and Holobob. He can also just as easily, if not more so, annihilate his foes from the air with his super heated Death Ray, Abducto Beam, Sonic Boom and personal favorite, Quantum Deconstructor.

Overall, gameplay is solid but can get boring and repetitive. An improved targeting system would have made the game much more enjoyable but it does not take long to get adjusted to. The game failed to load a few times which was especially frustrating during a certain boss fight. Graphics and sound are not jaw dropping but nifty little extras such as the “B-Movie Theater,” and “Furonigami” brings you back for more brain harvesting. The game itself offers witty, humorous and sometimes troubling dialogue all the while lampooning 1950’s America and is great if you like aliens and destruction.
