Destroy All Humans doesn't really do anything new, but it is fun nonetheless.

User Rating: 7.8 | Destroy All Humans! XBOX
GAMEPLAY: In Destroy All Humans you play as an alien whose job is to gather human DNA to help with the aliens cloning program, and to destroy all humans in a free roaming environment. You are given various tasks that involve quite a bit of mania and mayhem, from disguising yourself and fooling the townspeople to kidnapping a Majestic Agent. The missions are somewhat varied, but many of them just wind up as total obliteration missions. There are also some side missions, and some probes to collect along the way. You will also spend some time flying your saucer of death, which has a death ray, sonic boom, and an abducto-ray. Destroy All Humans is set in the 50’s, and communism is a huge theme throughout the game. Your character (Crypto 136) is often referred to as a commie, and most of your destructive deeds are blamed on communist activity. One of the coolest features of the game is that Crypto 136 can use mind powers to pick up people, cars and tanks, as well as hypnotizing people and extracting their DNA. You will also come across a small but upgradeable set of weapons for your destructive pleasure. Eventually, Destroy All Humans may feel repetitive, like many games of its kind.

GRAPHICS: The graphics suit the game well, and the explosion effects were quite nice. Destroy All Humans has nice feel, and the developers did a good job capturing the humor of that time period. When you probe people’s minds, many of there thoughts can be quite funny. (I am aware that humor isn’t exactly involved with graphics, but the graphics are part of the experience, and the graphics are a big part of the theme of the game.)

SOUND: The voice acting was well done, with all the voices sounding appropriate in their various roles. The actual music in the game is good, and the same applies for the in game sounds.

VALUE: This is where Destroy All Humans starts to fall a bit short, because it won’t last much over ten hours, if even that. And to make things worse there is no multiplayer, or really any replay value. Now that it only costs $20, it’s not such a bad deal, but it’s not worth paying any more than that. But, on the positive side, there are some extra bonus movies that you can unlock, which is cool.

TILT: Overall, Destroy All Humans is fun, but not very revolutionary. Most people will probably just enjoy playing through the game, and then moving on. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s still worth playing, so I suggest that you try playing it at least once, just to experience it for yourself.
