I was introduced to the DMC series in a reverse manner. I started off with DMC 2 and after finishing it only had I the chance to play the prequel DMC. The story line in DMC 2 is lacking in many areas … initiation of the game by an encounter between the heroine and Dante sends Dante our man on a mission to defeat Arius (The bad guy) who is trying to dominate the world. Just like in the movies, it is very much a predictable story plot where the hero saves the world and defeats the bad guy. This time around Dante's hair has grown longer, his pajamas more lengthy, his voice more deep, but somehow all these doesn't compensate for the dull and boring story. The sexy Trish doesn't appear in DMC2 much to my disappointment, but Dante now flips a double-headed coin to determine whether he accepts the task or not. Dante can now ride on his very own shiny bike and it is capable of crossing a very huge gap. Speaking of the action, it is much faster-paced than its prequel and this is an enjoyable part. In DMC2 you don't have to trade in orbs for Dante's skills and the double-jump feature is available from the start. This means that you can scorch the skies sooner than in DMC. For those who loved the gun-blasting action in DMC, Capcom has made Dante cross his arms and shoot, shoot at the front and point another gun backwards to feed bullets to zombie heads and etc. Combo attack moves are easier to perform than in DMC. Sword play controls feature a Dante who is much stronger than last time (The swinging is much more forceful than in DMC as well as plunging) in my opinion this sequel is basically a "DMC Made Easy". Dante can also walk on walls and bounce back from walls, and the Devil Trigger mode has been enhanced where you can enter into DT mode much frequently compared to the prequel. Stylish meter has been modified into phrases such as: "Are you ready?", "Show time!" etc. DMC2 comes with 2 DVDs where you can play as Dante in one disc and another disc for the heroine … Sadly though, the levels and the landscapes are pretty much the same for both characters and it could get boring after some time. Pros: Enhancement of combat control compared to prequel, more style, Dante gets a big bike, 2 playable characters, Machine guns available in the game, easy execution of combo attack moves. Cons: Poor story line and plot, Graphical design not as appealing as in prequel, repetitive landscapes and levels for both characters, feels like a game for gamers who can't get enough of Dante's acrobatic action. This game is still enjoyable though there are some obvious flaws in it, and I would recommend a purchase.
Well, due to popular demand--(kage), I've decided to get off my ass, grab a can of Mountain Dew, sit back on my ass and review the hell out of this game. Ahem. Warning: The following review contains DMC2 storyline... Read Full Review
