A worthy prequel to the Devil May Cry games

User Rating: 9 | Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition PS2
Devil May Cry 3 is a prequel to the original Devil may cry meaning you'll be exploring more into Dante's past. So the game starts off with dante trying to figure out a name for his shop when a mysterious man walks in knowing all about dante. Dante is then attacked by demons and is launched into a battle to keep his brother Vergil from opening the hell gate once again. So this is a pretty unique story as expected from the creativity of the story in the other games, and it makes it even more interesting that he has to stop his brother which helps make some emotion in the game.

Story aside we can now get into the main show of DMC3 that is slaughtering demons through stylish sword swinging action. In my opinion this is the best fighting of the series simply because you can do a variety of different combos with a variety of different weapons that you gain along the way making it easier to build the style gauge(This is just a meter that is in the upper left hand corner that fills from the grade letter D all the way to an SSS as you fight and stylishly kill off demons) Later in the game dante will obtain his devil trigger(DT)which alows him to awaken and use some of the demonic powers inside him which basically just makes him faster, stronger, and over time his health will slowly regenerate. You will also encounter golden statues throughout the game called Divination Statues which let you purchase attacks for a certain weapon or you can buy items that will heal and stuff of that nature. One final word about the gameplay is that... THIS HAS TO BE THE HARDEST HACK AND SLASH GAME EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!! Even on the easiest difficulty hardcore players will have to hide their anger and unexperienced players will be crying at the over the top, insane difficulty level. They have a special edition version of the game which adds a few new features such as being able to play as vergil, and a few new boss fights, and the best thing of all is that they actually had the decency to make the game a little easier. All in all there isn't much of a difference since everything feels a little thrown on there so unless you can't stand up to the difficulty of the original then this "special edition" is no more than a small expansion pack.

The sound of this game is very well done mostly consisting of heavy rock like music that goes quite well with the gameplay. The voice acting is very well done as well with hardly any corny or stupid lines infact for the first time dante actually throws in a few good one liners every now and then. The graphics a good as well with well detailed characters and areas.

Overall DMC3 is a great game both for fans of the series or just an ordinary gamer who wants to give a shot at the insane difficulty level, so have fun.
