Capcom; Those people just enjoy their demons and style.
User Rating: 9.7 | Devil May Cry (Platinum) PS2
Devil May Cry is one of the old games that everyone tends to know about and those who were under 13 when it premired haven't played. Well, now, it's only 10 dollars, which is surprising, considering it's goodness compares to great games that still cost 30 dollars, even AFTER three years since its release. But even so, DMC stands as one of the greatest action games of all time. Where to begin...Let's start with the storyline. It's really very unique. But let's strip it to the bare for now, shall we? Dante, a sortof demon hunter that works in his store, called Devil May Cry. A woman meets him in the store, proposes a quest, and Dante takes it on, simply because A. It's a job that he's finally doing, and B. It involves his father, Sparta, the legendary demon knight that fended off the demons from taking over the world, and C. The woman is familar. Oh, and don't forget, the demon Sparta fended off is returning to destroy the world again. Through the adventure, the story is unfolded, and it's actually pretty damn interesting in its own merit. Then there's the gameplay and sound, which are very close to extremely satisfying to the point that you sleep and wear Devil May Cry. The gameplay in general consists of intriguing weapons and gauntlets, as well as jumping all over the place while being cool-looking as your demon bleeds the blue or green hue of its blood. Needless to say, this whole process is pretty awesome. The weapons consists mainly of three catagories: Swords, which are always worn on the back and always equipped for optimum performance, then the two alternating types, guns and gauntlets. Guns are cause much damage, depending on whether or not you're using a shotgun or two dual pistols, while gauntlets are caster/fighter style things, in which you can shoot flame or lightning when afar, which is fun, or go close-up and start beating the crap out the demon with fire or electric punches/kicks. You can also choose to mix in the blade during combos, so it isn't all too reptitive. You also build-up the weapons and gauntlets, causing you to explore for the game's currency, orbs. As well as the fact that you just don't have every move avaliable straight at the start. Of course, if you suck at hard difficulty settings and chose easy like I did (I eventually did normal, don't fret), you'll come with some sword moves and such, otherwise, you'll remain completely deprived of the good moves. Which it should do, otherwise it'd be silly to be mercilessly strong in the beginning. The sound ain't tooooo special, considering you won't hear much than a percisely initiated gunshots and sword-swipings that sound true to the touch. Whatever in-gane _music_ you guyss hear fell on deaf ear for me, I heard something during battles, the errie low-music while in mansions and such make sure the game sticks to it's Capcom name and gives you some chills. The voice-actings pretty good but makes you wonder if Dante's character in DMC could've been slightly less over-confident and such, no one likes big-headed goth-like heroes. The graphics are great, they're, like, supreme-ownage. They're so great that they succeed in capturing the haunting-nessness of marionettes as they hang on the ceilings while swinging slightly by an unknown wind or force. The animation and graphics of that backdrop truly made me not wanna be in the room, which it should do. Let's all get to the obvious negative, though: Its shortness. You'll beat the first boss and fight him twice after that within about 1 or 2 hours. I was actually a little surprised that it ended when it did. Though its extra difficulties give definite challenge, it just ends too soon. But put that aside and you have an amazing action/adventure/survival-horror acievement that truly fulfilled each genre it was catagorized in.
