Let's Rock! Dante, a demon hunter, son of the demon Sparda, the antagonist of Devil May Cry. He and DMC will rock your world, that's why the infamous words he spoke at the beginning of Devil May Cry are so perfect for this game. Devil May Cry was abit of an unknown in the PS2's library. Originally stated to be Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry branched out from what it was supposed to be in Resident Evil into a completely new game and into one of Capcom's most successful franchises ever. There are similarities to Resident Evil that could be drawn, the puzzles for instance or the menu design, and item collection...But that's where the similarities end, Devil May Cry's gameplay was one in it's own. Capcom took the standard action game and some how twisted it up, got rid of standard gravity and put in one of the most kick-ass characters ever, with some bad ass weapons and moves and printed Devil May Cry on the game case. What makes it so good? Quite simply, Devil May Cry's gameplay is perfect. The perfect blend of action, platforming and puzzle elements make this game an absolute fun-fest. Anybody could pick up and play this game and pull off an awesome move. Devil May Cry took the elements of a fighter and an action game, and blended them to create the perfect mix of action gameplay. It is sheer gaming goodness, and has since spawned many games that have followed in the vein of DMC gameplay such as Shinobi, Rygar or even Ninja Gaiden. The graphics hold up even today, in 2001 they were beautiful. The enviroments are highly detailed, and the animation spectacular. The lighting was beautiful, some of the only flaws that can be drawn from the graphics are that the models aren't exactly the greatest. Overall, however, anyone will be impressed with the graphics, even in 2004. Pumping rock and gothic music, make this game very impressive sound-wise. However the voice work isn't the best, with even worse dialogue but in a bizarre effect it works quite well in giving off the impression of a b-movie concocted of pure cheese, which actually works well for what the game is. Some more diverse enemy sound would have been appreciated. The game's biggest shortcoming however is that it is very short and rather easy. It can be completed in one sitting, in under 5 hours and some of that will be in backtracking. Those 5 hours though, will be 5 hours of gaming bliss andf you'll want to play through the game right away after finishing it. Propably one of the more innovative games this gen, DMC offered gameplay like no other. If you want to see where the gaming of awesome other games like Ninja Gaiden came from, you'll definately want to check this game out, it's a sure thing this game is one of the best, dont deny yourself the priveledge of owning it.
