This is a game that the die hard fans of the final fantasy series. but for others, its worth a rental.
The story in the game follows Vincent Valintime, who you may remember is the half human, half vampire character from final fantasy VII, as he is once again summoned to rescue the world from an organization called Deepground. soon, he learns that they are trying to reserect this monster called Omega, and will do anything to get to it.Vincent meets up with characters such as Azul, and others that will get in his way as the game progresses on. the main difference is that you are following the story of Vincent, which means that there will be alot of flash backs of his life as a human. he has this relationship with a wonen called Lucretia and the story will tell her struggles in her life going to the part of her death.
the only problom with the story is the fact that it takes a long time to get to the point. the story will change as it talkes about one subject and will swith to another. for example, you see a cutseen about what just happened in the story, then you get a flash back seen with lucretia and vincent, then you get another cut seen with deepground, then you go back to the regular game and see what to do next. thease changes will either confuse you, or it will bore you to death and you will not pay attention to it at all. so there are reasons why you will not pay so much attention to the story of Dirge of Creberus, but non the less, it is a perrty good story in the end.
one of the big part of the game is it gameplay. it is no longer the whole RPG style of game that you would expect, now its a run and gun shooter. so does this make the game good? yes... for about five minutes. the game is too easy and not that difficult. at least in some parts. the game takes an interesting twist in a direction that makes the game different, but its just not that fun. the game has auto lock so you can't miss your target and you will get a dead aim shot. there are three different types of guns in the game which is a nice touch, but there is a problem.
the three types of gubs in the game are the cerberus, your main wepon, the Hydra, a sniper rifle, and a machine gun. while it seems cool to gave all of those wepons together, al you really need is just the cerberus and you will be done with the game in a short time. the game takes about eight hours to beat, which then you can go do some extra missions. thease missions expand the game longer and its quite enjoyable after a while. ( that is if you enjoyed the game itself).
Graphically, DoC does not look good. the graphics look muddy, the textures look bad ans the settings in the game just look dull. the character modles on vincent do look anazing and on some of the other characters look fantastic. the enemies on the other hand don't look so good. plus there isnt alot of variety in the characters as well. the boss characters also look goodand when they get into the cinematic that is when the game looks its best. its such ashame though that there isn't enough of those to make the game more enjoyable. but one main complaint is the voice acting. its terrible, and cheesy. some of voices for the characters do match right on. other than that, its not that great.
sound wies. the game sounds awesome. besides voice acting, the game music is just superb, and one of the highlites if the game indeed.the sound affects in the game arnt that bad, even though it could have been better and ambiance cound have been better made as well. the presentation makes the game feel like a movie. which in some games like metal gear solid is a good thing where it backs it all up with good game play, DoC gives you three different stories at the same time and is just straight out confusing with giving you gameplay that you will either like or hate.
in he end Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is one of those games that only the fans will enjoy and only the fans will get a kick out of it. this game is worth a rental at best, and for the people who want to get something good out of the final fantasy series. this game may not be worth the money.
