A definite must play game.

User Rating: 9.6 | SOS: The Final Escape PS2
This game goes into a rarely ventured game area, survival without horror. In reality the game story plays out like a B movie but still has enough depth to hold interest. You start out as a reporter named Keith Helm on your way to your first big job for a news office on Steiver Island unfortunately on the way there a massive earthquake hits and you are knocked unconscious. That is where your story starts. You wake up on an upside-down train and need to start brushing up on your survival skills. Your quest will take you throughout Steiver Islands’ buildings, streets and sewers in order to find a safe way off the island for you and your friends. Along the way you run into a mischievous plot and must do your reporting job to uncover the truth.

The gameplay in the game is quite unique; it consists of platforming, puzzle solving, exploration, stealth action, survival and more. There are also a few mini gameish points to the game as well as a relationship meter to keep an eye on.

The sound is pretty good but not perfect; the sound effects are bland but pretty accurate despite being repetitively used. The voice acting is done well but feels like an 80’s Japanese movie since in no way to the lips match the talking. There are also a strange amount of scenes where the dialog is just text and there isn’t any voice dialog.

The graphics are very good for an early PS2 game, at any point you can go 1st person and look out in any direction and see background that extends to the horizon. The character models look good as does the general scenery. A big detail is that if you equip an item it will actually show up on you! And what makes that even better is that they look like what they are supposed to!

The controls are very simple and easy to get a hold of so there isn’t much need to go further here.

For replay value, this game is top notch. The game has seven different endings and lots to collect and unlock so you shouldn’t get bored with it. If you plan to only play and beat it one time you might be very disappointed as it can be beaten in less then eight hours.

As for the price, this is a “bargain bin” game since it’s virtually unheard of but well worth the price.

And for a final note, those of you with a “Trance Vibrator” Attachment for your PS2 should get this because it is 100% compatible (thank you Japan)
