I travel to infinity and beyond for the full review of Activision's port of Toy Story 2 to N64.
While Toy Story 2 admittedly boasts intuitive controls and tried-and-true platformer mechanics (that work), the Nintendo 64 version of the game is hampered by a poor framerate, washed out visuals and a decidedly blurry look when compared to its PlayStation counterpart. It's not difficult to ascertain that developer Traveller's Tales isn't focused on Nintendo 64 software -- only porting it as fast as possible.
In the end, this is an extremely flawed port of a good PlayStation platformer. If you own a PlayStation already, we recommend you pick up the 32-bit version of Toy Story 2 -- it's leagues better than the Nintendo 64 hand-me-down. If you're just looking for an excellent platformer for Nintendo 64, see any of the above N64 games mentioned as this, unfortunately, isn't it.
Presentation: Brings the feature film home to N64 with all of the characters and environments. What happened to the FMV? If RE2 can do it, so can Toy Story 2. 8.5/10
Graphics: Looks great for PlayStation. The N64 version, though, is washed out, blurry and hampered by a poor framerate. 4.5/10
Sound: Tunes from the movie by Randy Newman and snazzy sound effects. 8.5/10
Gameplay: Lots to do and see, but everything is brought down by ugly visuals and a poor framerate 7.5/10
Lasting Appeal:The adventure is big, but simplistic. No multiplayer mode and ugly graphics do well to deter 6.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10
My Verdict: only rent if your into platformers :)
