This is one of my favorite games from my childhood and it still holds up great till this day.
Game play: This game is a side-scroller that features Aladdin as he is trying to win the heart of princess jasmine. The game play has Aladdin fighting guards with an Arabian sword or with apples and plat forming to get to the end of a level. The level design is really good, too. The level is not a go left to right to finish level; instead you will go right climb up or jump up to something then go left and repeat. One thing that I really liked about this game was that the enemies always fit the area and had there own attack patterns that made each enemy different like how the guard that has a pole will just run at you and attack you while the sword guard waits for you to come to it. Also all the enemies fit the area they were in. In the cave of wonders you were fighting bats and statues and in the palace you are fighting guards, everything fit with the feel and look of the level. Like how one enemy type "The Knife Juggler" was really hard and should have been in the last level but since he would not fit in the palace they didn't put him there. There was so much attention to detail when it came to the levels. Some levels have bosses and they are pretty easy. The game can get pretty hard in the second half, but the bosses were really easy, I mean come the only thing you have to do is throw apples at them and the two bosses that you slash at with your sword you can defeat with no damage at all done to Aladdin. The only boss I had trouble with was the last one and that was because I ran out of apples and the spot where the apples respawn was impossible to get to, but if you come into the boss battle with enough apples it is a pretty good boss fight since I barely won it since it was pretty hard. You can also buy lives and wishes from the merchant from the movie with gems you find in the levels, win in the genie level, or get in the apu level, but the wishes do nothing at all so only buy the lives. The genie level is a slot machine that you can get lives gems and apples from but there is one problem that always bothered me. The slot machine has a Jafar sign that says you lose and if you get that one if you have any more "spins" left they all disappear with the items staying though, but the thing that will frustrate a lot of people is that there is that the Jafar sign will frequently pop up more then the items themselves so you will lose all your "spins" a lot. The apu levels are basically just keeping him alive as pots try to fall on him and enemy try to kill him, they are nothing that special but I liked them. You can only get the apu and genie levels by finding and collecting there symbol (heads) in the levels and they will happen right after you beat the level as Aladdin.
Graphics: It has hand drawn graphics done my Disney. The characters and animations look exactly like that from the film in a good way. Now in days people would call that lazy but back then it was the top of the line with graphics. The backgrounds look great except for the level inside of the lamp which had just a lazy background design that never changed. Every level had its own still and looked great (except the lamp level).
Good:
-Fun and challenging
-great graphics
-even though the game is only 30 minutes longs it can take over a while to beat
Bad:
-Sometimes you would fall through platforms
-The lamp level had a bad camera and you would die a lot when it was not your fault
-sometime when you fall on top of an enemy he will hit you till you die but you cannot hit him time you are to the side of him.
-the bats are annoying and hard to kill
Closing statements: The game is fun and great for the time. If you are a fan of the sega genesis you should buy it now.
