WayForward does it again with this American Dragon GBA game.
It was a lot like an imported Naruto game I have so I was pretty familiar with how it works. It's a side scroller bash-and-beat game. You play as Jake and sometimes can get Lao Shi(Grandpa), Fu Dog, or Spud with Trixie. Each gives their own benefits to Jake:
Lao Shi: Rain of Flames: Attack Type: Attacks multiple enemies.
Fu Dog: Focus Ball: Support Type: Releases many focus orbs for Focus Bar.
Spud & Trixie: Burgers: Support Type : Throws burgers for HP.
I never hesitated to become Jake's Dragon form in the game. The way you "kill" monsters is by smashing the (B) button to make Jake punch (oww...) the enemies. That's it. You can also ride your skateboard which is somewhat like running, and you can also do some combo attacks with your skateboard.
Then after collecting some "focus" orbs things get much more interesting. Heh, heh.
I never hesitate to become Jake's dragon form. Button smashing becomes massacre. As a dragon you are invincible! The enemies can't hurt you now plus you get to attack more than just (B). The (A) button which was formally the jump command, now becomes Jake's claw attack. The (B) button is Jake's tail whip attack. And the most awesome attack is Jake's fire breath which is executed by holding ( R ). Unfortunately Jake's reign of power is not all lasting. He is only a dragon for about a minute or less and becomes a human again.
What I find HIGHLY stupid is the fact that you fight boss monsters in HUMAN form. Wouldn't you "dragon up" if you had to fight a boss or something? Or (if you actually watched the series you would get this...) dragon up when fighting Hunstclan members so they WON'T know your identity? I mean c'mon... If they really didn't want that moment to become TOO EASY why make Jake's dragon form a power up in the first place?
Well on to other aspects. The sound is pretty good, gives that same feel you get from the cartoon. Cut-scenes are dialog parts with very clear & nice art style from the first season's artist. See that's something I enjoy. They use the FIRST SEASON art style instead of the god awful season 2 one...
Another problem has to be some of the dialog. This game contains much slang, like alot of slang. It becomes difficult to read at times. The story? Far from impressive but what do you expect from American Dragon? Graphics are... WOW. WayForward who also developed Shantae for the GBC, has done their magic again on the graphics of this game. Sprites are fully animated, clear, and well-done. Overall it's good. Should had only let you play as a dragon since in the cartoon Jake rarely fights as a human. So if you are a fan of the cartoon, get this game.
