Who knew that a Disney game could be this much fun? A game that definitely deserves a look.
So, while I was waiting for the game to start, I get a short montage of all the kids trying out to be in the game, and they all were pretty good, but then I said that this is a game not a skateboarding video. So when the game actually started, the first signs of a story are pretty much that I'm a kid who lives in Olliewood, and I apparently love all Disney films so I found out the ability to transport to the different worlds from the movies, like Pizza Planet or Pride Rock. Now, let me say now that this is a great game. But does Extreme Sports Adventure do it all so it's fun?
Graphics are good for the Gamecube era, the 3D is done nicely and the controls are actually pretty good! It seems the developer, Toys For Bob, actually looked at the crappy controller and thought that they could actually make the controls feel comfortable! Anyway the game controls well, there was no slowdown from what I played. My one issue is that all the Disney guys are about 4 feet too small, but all the "smaller" Disney characters look normal.
Now customization, before you start, you have to choose between the boy and girl winners of the try-outs for your gender, which I found annoying that I couldn't just go to a screen like in THUG and make a character, and add it to the characters I can play as. Okay lets just throw that point out. So here you can change cloths for your guy, put on a hat, literal d-bag cloths, and have some night vision goggles. I enjoyed the crazy outfit choices here. Thankfully, you can adjust the height so my character doesn't look like a 5 year old. So the game doesn't really rely on objectives like score 5000 points or jump the over the rooftop, it's just fun stuff like knock over the piles in the store or race the other skaters in town. They were a lot more fun and took awhile to beat. After you're done in one area, you move onto the other. So after you complete all the goals, get all the items to make your character, unlock all the other Disney characters like Nela or Zurg, you beat the game! What's next? Well I really don't know, there is a 2 player mode, which is pretty much a bust due to the fact that it's just get the higher score. There was a real lack of story to this game and it mainly just let us relive some of the stories of our favorite Disney films, which made the game worse due to some lack of originality. But overall the game is great, just be prepared to beat it very quickly.
So Extreme Skate Adventure, should you Buy, Rent, or Skip? I'd have to say rent, the game has really no story other than the one I basically made up. The game was extremely short but it's still worth looking at, as the game had a real sense of challenge and a lot of fun parts. Plus they recreated the areas pretty well that they're all fun to skate in.
Goods-Tons of customization, sense of challenge, good graphics, good controls, good recreation of the game areas
Bads-No real sense of originality, really short, not much to do after winning
