BEST MUSIC GAME!!

User Rating: 9.5 | DJ Max Portable: Black Square PSP
Let me start by saying that I have not put this game down since I got it from Korea (play-asia.com). It will definately put you in a world of music you've never heard. If you are a fan of dance music (trance, hip-hop, techno, house, Drum N Bass, euro dance, rock, J-pop, jazz, and happy hardcore) this game is meant for you. I use to DJ so playing this game really spoke to me, but I had no idea it was going to be like this.

Think of this game like Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Notes scroll from top to bottom and you must hit the right key for the right notes. You won't just be playing "notes" per se. Almost every button press makes a different sound throughout the songs. One minute you'll be playing the drum hits and other times it can be piano keys, cymbal crashes, synth notes, voices, etc. You will even play more than one instrument at one time. There are about 50+ songs to play, if you unlock them all.

WARNING!! This game is NOT easy. Play Dj Max Portable 1 if you really want to get the basics down. Starting out with this version may cause much stress if you are not a rhythm game person. The songs are much harder. With time, you'll notice your skills will improve without even trying, but it will take time and well worth it. This is the newest in the DJ MAX series. Basically, fourth in the series.

DJ Max Portable 1
DJ Max Portable 2
DJ Max Portable Clazziquai
DJ Max Portable Black Square

As if this game isn't fun enough, it has PLENTY of hidden contents waiting to be unlocked, such as songs, pics, videos, and note fx. Here is something fun as well. Once you unlock a new pic, you can save it to your memory card and save it as a Wallpaper. There are about 100 pics to unlock. Feel like not playing and just have a MP3 player? Well, once you play enough you can listen to the game's soundtrack or watch any of the videos that play in the background. To be honest, some of the videos are BREATHTAKING!

If you want a good idea on some of the music and gameplay in this game go to youtube and search these songs.

1) Shoreline (my favorite by far)
2) River Flow
3) PDM
4) Heart of Witch

NOTE: Even though this game is made in Korea, there is an option to play the game FULLY in English. Plus, all PSP games are region free, meaning it doesn't matter what country you buy the game from. Just pop the game in your PSP and there you go.

I think I covered it all. It's truely an amazing game. I got it last week (1/22/09) and I play it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I introduced the game to a friend and now she is hooked. This could be the next big music game with the right publicity. I guess we'll see. The U.S. version of DJ Max is coming 1/27/09, called DJ MAX FEVER. That will contain music from DJ MAX 1 and 2. If it sells well I can see another DDR craze about to hit, only to be called DJ Max. Hope this review helps, my fellow gamers.

Much love,
