Give it a quick try

All in all, Dofus is a fairly good 2D MMORPG that suffers from some minor setbacks and a few major ones. Mainly, the balancing of character classes isn't fun in any way at all. Most users simply choose one of the more overpowered classes and follows a predefined set of leveling choices to get a super-powered character. In fact, most users follow a guide regardless of class in order to keep up with the other characters. You really don't have the freedom in leveling you initially feel you do. Also, battles can slow down a lot whenever one member of a party lags simply because they can't be kicked. Lastly, the item system is boring as hell. You spend all this time grinding to get enough money to buy a set, but pretty soon you're ready for a new set.

The biggest issue is p2p. Any character that pays to play skyrockets past the f2p players, leaving anyone unwilling or unable to play feeling like they should be doing something else. When Ankama calls this game "free" they mean "we'll let you see some stuff, then you pay us to REALLY play". I know that's not so bizzare of an idea, but it's still dissapointing. I hate to see games where players with credit cards pull ahead of everyone else.

So basically, try it yourself. I liked the game myself until I got tired of the grinding and moved on to PSO.
