Donkey Kong Country 2 is a great platformer that everyone will enjoy, but it's age doesn't hurt this classic at all.

User Rating: 8.5 | Super Donkey Kong 2: Dixie & Diddy SNES
After I got my SNES, I got the game Donkey Kong Country 2. I knew this classic would be very enjoyable.

And it was. Donkey Kong Country is simply Super Mario World, except with apes replacing the plumber.

The difference is that each ape can only take one hit. If a ape gets hit, he or she runs away and is "kidnapped". Get hit again without recovering your partner (trapped in DK marked barrel) and you lose a life and start the level again at either a checkpoint or the beginning of the level.

The plot is that Kaptain K. Rool has kidnapped Donkey Kong, and it's up to Diddy and his girlfriend Dixie to rescue Donkey Kong. Not the best plot, but it works.

The stages are beautifully designed. From gusty winds to roller coaster rides, there are many hazards that are in each level.

The graphics are great, well, for a SNES game. Even so, it looks like a absolute mess compared to modern-day games.

Gameplay is simple. I told you the dying process earlier in the review. Falling into bottomless pits are another way to die.

There are "Lost Worlds" in the game. To get a "Lost World", you need to get 15 Kremkoins and go to Klubba's Kisok (located in each world except the first world) to unlock a "Lost World". Which "Lost World" you unlock depends solely in which Klubba's Kisok you go to. For example, the Klubba's Kisok in Krem Quay unlocks Black Ice Battle.

To the bosses. The only bosses that gave me trouble was the Kaptain K. Rool in the Flying Krock, and the Kaptain K. Rool you confront when you complete all the "Lost Worlds". Beat the Kaptain K. Rool you confront when you beat all the "Lost Worlds" to get the REAL ending. Completing all the "Lost Worlds" are worth it.

Overall, Donkey Kong Country 2 is a true classic. Get this game on either the Virtual Console or the cartridge version on the SNES. (They're both the same anyway.) It's worth it.
