This game is a perfect example of how games used to be, fun and challenging.
The game starts out with Donkey Kong being captured by King K. Rool. Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong set out to rescue him on an adventure of more than 50 levels.
Like the 1st Donkey Kong Country, this game is a platformer. You can move Diddy or Dixie left and right, make them jump, use their special abilities, or have them team up. Diddy can do a barrel roll, and Dixie can hover through the air. Also, when Diddy and Dixie team up, you can do a few new things. When Diddy is holding Dixie, or vice versa, than the character being held can be thrown a great distance either up, or to the side. This can help you reach platforms and secrets that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. You will have to use their abilities to get by the enemies and trials that await them.
Though, it may seem simple, this game is actually brutishly hard. Most of this comes from the fact that you don't always know whats in front of you. You could be going down the level, jump over a pit...and then realize the pit is bigger than you thought and you die. You lose a life, then repeat the level with the knowledge of the pit in mind. This may seem tedious, but it isn't. Also, Diddy and Dixie can only withstand one hit each, so you have to be extremely careful.
The graphics are beautiful and gorgeous to look at. From an amusement park, to a bee hive, to a swamp, and even through some brambles, the games environments are varied and modeled with extreme care and detail. In particular, the bee hive is extremely well done, with the honeycombs glistening in the background and honey dripping down the screen in the foreground
The soundtrack is superb, with upbeat tones like Rattle Battle (which is actually a remake of the music from the Galleon in DK Country 1) and haunting music like Lockjaws Locker and Bramble Scramble (my personal favorite. The sound effects are good too, although there inst a great variety, but they sound good nevertheless.
DK Country 2 has a coop which can be fun, although i don't recommend doing the 2p contest, as that can just get frustrating. Still, DK Country 2 is an amazing game, and highly recommendable to just about anyone. It stands the test of time well.
