A Donkey Kong experience no one should pass up.

Donkey Kong games have never really interested me, but this ones different. A platformer that you play with bongos?! Thats absurd. Or is it?

If you know anything about this game it's probably the fact that you use bongo's to control DK. Hitting the left one moves DK left, the right one moves him right, both together jump, and clapping (or hitting the rim) can stun enemies so that you can attack in which case you will alternate hitting the two bongo's (punching with both fists). It's really quite creative....but I warn you now not to play it with the controller. Unless I did it wrong, or there is another way, you have to continuously tap the control stick left or right to move which is not easy to do quickly.

DKJB offers up quite the variet of levels. Some where you are always going up, some going down, some normal left to right platforming, some riding crazy animals, some underwater. It's all here. Along with some money's that'll throw you around and some birds that you can use to float up or down. They really did put a lot of work into this game. Not to mention that it looks gorgeous. The fur on all the main characters is amazingly realistic and soft looking.

The bosses are pretty cool to. They utilize the bongos abilities very well. For example, an elephant which tosses out pineapple bombs and you clap to knock them up in the air then jump and hit them at him to stun him. Then go in and go to town on him. Rinse and repeat. There are a few other bosses in the game to...but thats the problem, there's only a handful of bosses throughout quite a few levels. They get a little tougher everytime you face them, but it would have definitly been nice to see more bosses.

As I just said, there is a numerous amount of levels, but at the short amount of time it takes to beat each one you can complete the game in one 3 1/2 to 4 hour sitting. That's not very much time at all, especially with the cost of buying the game along with a set of bongo's. If you already have bongo's from Donkey Konga then I suppose your a step ahead, but if not you might want to find someone who does and just borrow them.

In each level you can collect bananas (of course, whats a platformer without an insane number of collectables?) There are three award levels for collecting bananas and depending on the number of awards you have you unlock new levels. Some levels are very simple to reach the highest banana level, but some are much more difficult.

Luckily, it's not to tough to get enough awards to complete the main part of the game. However, there is eight (I think) more stages to unlock after you've beaten the final boss. Getting these requires all gold medals (I think again, my apologies for not being sure) which takes a lot of work and I'm not really sure if it's worth the effort.

Due to the innovation of the game though, I think it's a must play. What's there is done very well, there's just not enough. Thats my real complaint. Find someone who has this game and snag it for a few days just to experience it. Hopefully Nintendo will put out a DKJB 2 with three or four times as much material; I can't wait for the day.
