Not as good as the PC version but still a decent port.

I'm a huge fan of the Doom games (especially Doom II) and while Doom is best played on a PC, This SNES port is pretty well done.

The first thing I noticed was how good the graphics were compared to the PC counterpart. It moves a bit slower and the textures are little more pixelated too but It still looks great. All the weapons are there as are the monsters. The level designs are perfectly converted too (apart from a few redesigned textures).

I found the controls surprisingly great. The four face buttons all play a part with a buttons for opening doors and flicking switches, one for shooting and the other two for switching weapons. The two shoulder buttons are for strafing. The D-pad feels a bit clunky when the action picks up and you are frantically running about.

The sounds are pretty good but could be a bit better. The enemies and guns sound a lot like they do on the PC but the quality is lowered quite a bit.

What really stands out with this game (and any Doom game) is the gameplay itself. Running from point A to point B While blasting the hell out of demons and zombie soldiers and collecting key cards along the way. Really simple but highly addictive.

Overall a great port and a great buy if you are a fan of Doom or First Person Shooters in general.
