With great graphics and creepy environments, Doom 3 will not disappoint. Doom 3 shows what the Xbox is truly capable of and as soon as you start the game you will notice that the lighting effects and shadows are very well done and that they add to the realism of the game. The environment is another well done aspect of the game. Such as lights flickering, sparks flying, and the noises around you. While it may not have the best storyline, it certainly isn’t a bad one either. The old Doom games never really had a story, and they turned out to be classics. Old school Doom fans will most likely appreciate the gameplay more than the people that are new to the Doom series. The game has a pretty simple run and gun type of gameplay that is much like most of the old Doom games, but it’s still very fun. The controls are very comfortable and easy to use and will probably take you about 10 to 20 minutes to get used to. A useful feature in the control options allows you to assign a weapon to each direction of the D-pad. This is a very helpful feature in the game that will let you have quicker access to your favorite weapons. Doom 3 has many jumpy moments. You will be walking down a dark hallway and all of a sudden a demon will pop up behind you screeching. The whole game is based on a “jump out when you least expect it” theme, and trust me, it works. It will make you want to search different areas of the room before you go to make sure nothing is hiding and waiting for you to turn your back. Now for the best part of the game, the graphics. The lighting and shadows look fantastic on the Xbox. I have to say that even though it may not look as good as the PC version, it comes pretty close. You will notice many details such as the heat rising off of flames, steam shooting out of pipes, and objects casting shadows throughout a room as well as monsters. The monsters in the game are also very detailed. You probably won’t notice it because you will be more focused on shooting them or running from them most of the time. For all of those people who played the old Doom games back in the day, you should definitely get your hands on the collector’s edition which comes with Ultimate Doom, and Doom 2 as well as many other extras. These games will keep you busy for hours and will add to the replay value. So if you've been waiting for this game to come out and you are a fan of the old Dooms, or you just enjoy a good shooter, you should definitely pick up Doom 3 for the Xbox because it’s long and it's an overall great game.
