This excellent heart pounding game delivers everything you would expect from a great first person shooter.
As the game starts, you realize the work Id Software did on Doom’s 3 graphics, they are maybe the Xbox/Gc/Ps2 generation best graphics overall… The stunning shadows, the incredible face expressions, the superb textures and bitmaps every object carries on, and there are a lot more remarkable achievements Id Software made on Doom’s 3 graphics.
After getting the first glimpse of this game’s graphics, you get the idea of what this game might be in the future. You first thought of the setting is that you are on Mars, inside a multimillionaire company that like to evade laws. Of course, you get to your first main task, and that is to reach Sergeant Kelly. By the time you do so, he does not make a nice intro, although he will playfully give you another task, you will have to find, for him, a lost Doctor. You make a long trip to the Doc’s position and all of the sudden, spirits came out of no where, eating others souls, and making them into zombies. Living hell people! Living hell! So here is my first complain, why is everyone getting ate up by hell, and I don’t? Well, there’s just no explanation.
As you go through you can make a good test to the shooting system, you realize it woks pretty well, it’s not Halo, it’s not Half Life, but it work. Game play is normal, nothing amazing going on here. You can experience some splendid AI opponent’s moves, like Imps climbing walls all around you, giving some extra action feel inside. There are some letdowns though, like when you have to take your flash light out, you also have to take your weapon out, why can’t I attach it to my weapon as nowadays cops do? Putting that aside you will for first time notice the game is awesomely claustrophobic. The shadows and the sound combined, with you alone in your room, will have you wasting minutes asking to yourself: ¿Should I go in there?
Another nice feature is that the game does not feel that is separated by levels, even if it does. So the action will never ever end, and add some first-rate second story Id Software added inside, it will create a shooting environment you will be playing for hours.
For instance, some sentry droids help you out clearing stranglers, and it is nice to have this guys around, the sound works so well, and the graphics are so good, that you’ll get the whole survivor flavor all over you, you may find a catch though, if droids are so damn strong, then, why the hell is all this… hell happening.
While the Co-Op version of the multiplayer is fun and enjoyable, the versus department is maybe the worst of Doom 3, is just that it’s to damn short lived, with Xbox Live capabilities, I just think Id could worked out a little bit more this area. Just 4 players versus, the engine of the game is not so well prepared for Multi like Halo 2 does, it is just a hard to admit fact.
My final though are that this game is made out of a classic, it should not be missed by anyone, even if you don’t like shooter, because its roots are the essence of gaming at the present time. The good graphics combined with excellent sound effects, and all the freaking darkness everywhere will give anyone a memorable experience.
