FAIL BETHESDA ***PLATFORMING SUCKS***

User Rating: 5 | DOOM Eternal (Code in a Box) PC

I was so looking forward to this. With the current state of reality with COVID-19, Doom Eternal's release was perfectly timed and I was really excited to escape into the game.

Unfotunately, my sense of euphoria was dashed about 5 minutes in when I found myself stuck on a platforming section for 30 minutes before I could move on with the game. WHY WHY WHY did they decide to add this crap the game. It's basically tragic.

Who are they consulting?? What is going here BETHESDA? I didn't think your incompetence with all your Elder Scrolls and Fallout and whatever other crappy releases would not affect id Software after the perfection that was Doom 2016.

I'm not motivated to keep playing this at all when the rhythm of the game is totally broken up by this braindead monkey bars gameplay. This has NO place in a DOOM game.

It alone kills the game. Everything else such as weaker fighting, weaker music, and an overall inexplicable regression in game design is actually forgiven if it wasn't for these unforgivable platforming sections. The hell/medieval setting is pretty cool to play in. The ambiance could be very immersive if it wasn't for the monkey bars. This disaster with the platforming is so easily avoidable. WTF happened Bethesda.

Lmao, the platforming is really easy and smooth if you take the time to learn it. I didn't get the hang of it early on but now I am very pleased with how smooth it is. It might just have to do with you not being used to move around the mouse and character in the correct way. It IS a necessary part of the game, and I personally think it was a great way to transition between different areas of the map. You should look through the tutorials and try to train by loading up a level and doing some of the easier platforming parts there, it should help you understand how it works. But it can be pretty difficult if you haven't had to deal with such things in other games.

This review seems pretty harsh, and you shouldn't just keep throwing yourself at a problem hoping that you will eventually solve it. Because then, yes, the game will slow down to a crawl, and you won't get any satisfaction from it. Doom Eternal is quite an amazing game, and it's a waste to spend money on it and then stop playing because you can't get the hang of some of the mechanics.

There are tutorials online to help you get the hang of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg6-49b5u1w Tutorial on a certain part of a level with some annoying platform, maybe this is the level you were speaking of. If not, you should still watch it, it's only 2 minutes long.

https://www.ign.com/wikis/doom-eternal/Tips_and_Tricks#Always_Stay_Moving here's a general guide to DOOM Eternal on IGN, you can still find tips on movement in there.

And I also recommend watching parts of walkthroughs online, you can watch what other people do and try it yourself, you may find that it will help you.

I hope I was able to offer genuine help. It's a shame to see people get intimidated by the platforming. It can be pretty challenging, as DOOM Eternal is itself a challenging game, and not everyone is used to being very quick and agile with their mouse and keyboard. And you also have to learn combinations of keystrokes and mouse swings that may be difficult for some people. Good luck.

Yes agree about the annoying platform sections. They just boring and slow the fast pace of the game down.

Apart from that I love the game and makes this UK Lockdown bearable!
