Gamecube makes Dragon Ball Z : Budokai 2 shine like new!

User Rating: 8.1 | Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 GC
Dragon Ball Z : Budokai 2 is a solid game that improves on the Playstation 2 version. However, the improvements are few and far between. This game was released after one year of being on the Playstaion 2, but Gamecube makes this game shine like new.

The Gameplay as in the Playstaion 2 version has its ups and downs. The fighting system is the same as the first budokai game, there are however a few changes such as instant beam attacks that can be activated much easier than a long combos. The story mode mirrors the actualy series story line quite well whith a few places that seem to drag on. It is however a simple fightinig game with simple controls and compared to Soul Caliber 2 it isn't impressive. Despite that fact you can still have a lot of fun with it.

The graphics are your simple cel-shaded graphics with an added flare. The best part would be the beam attacks, they are brightly colored and look pretty nice. The effects of the transformations are nice and the sparks around the characters when their Ki gauge is full are pretty nice, but again all of these graphics are nothing new to the Budokai Series.

The sound is most likely the worst part. The stages all have about the same themes and are unimaginative and could use an change. Most of the music is the same as the first Budokai (Heavy metal and rock) with a few barely noticeable changes it's the same old stuff with a new package, but the game is not without its good qualities the voice overs are done well and by the Funimation Voice actors.

Its worth the amount you spend on it, but try to find the cheapest you can because if you don't shop around you will regret it. In terms of the value of the game it is in the eye of the Gamer. Some may like it some will say it a piece of garbage. The garbage comment aside, it is a nice game that delivers plenty of gameplay hours The fact that to unlock extras you need to increase the difficulty is also quite nice so its an easy game that you need to make harder. if you like to beat a game 100% this is surely a task because due to all the unlockables it will get repetitive.

My overal feelings about this game is that, if you have some spare time and need to relax give this game a try if you have a sibling or a friend it can make it more fun. And also for a Dragon Ball Z fan it is a must have. at least Rent it. Its worth the time.
