Now I’ve never played any of the other Budokai games before, so this is my fist with the series. At first, I didn’t really like it. There is a slight learning curve, it may take you between 30 min to an hour to get the basics down, but I’ve spent a good amount of time with the game, and I still suck on easy, so this is a challenging game. Graphics: 9/10 The graphics are amazing. I really feel that the cel shaded look fits in perfectly with the style of the game, since it is made from an anime series. All of the animations are smooth, there are a lot of cool little effects that the game throws at you. I really enjoy the power up effect, since it gives your character the trademark ‘’aura’’ that the anime series is known for. The graphics are nothing short of bliss. I would give this part a 10, but I make it a personal goal to not over rates a game, no matter how good it is. Game play: 8/10 Game play is great. The fighting is VERY fun, and challenging. The only thing I would have to say bad about this is the fact that there are so many different characters, yet there is so little amount of difference between them. I myself only use one character, Goku, since he is able to turn into every super Sayian form, which leads to a more powerful character. But all aside, even if you only use one character, there is a huge variety of characters to choose from, so you can at least personalize yourself with a different looking character. The fighting system composes of one kick button, one punch, an energy button, and a block button. It’s pretty simple, and there are few combos and not any real depth to the game play, but it sure is fun. There are a few different modes as well, such as practice, tournament, story mode, and you can also buy stuff for your characters in the shop. Tournament is fun for a brief challenge, and Story mode is just plain fun. You can play it over and over again in a sort of RPG like style. You level your character up in fights, search for dragon balls and items, and the cool part if that you have a code tagged on your character, so you can give it to friends, and they can fight your character without multiplayer. But there is a multiplayer feature. Sound: 8/10 Sound is good, all of the trademark effects that are in the anime are found here. Its all crisp, everything fits well. Character voices are nice, although there are a few characters that are goofy, like when the character known as Cel uses one of his attacks, he says something like, ‘’Come on, gimmie that stupid energy.’’ I find that a bit strange, but considering many of the games characters are goofy just like they are in the anime, it fits well. Value: 8/10 It’s a great game. Maybe not the best fighter, I would prefer Tekken 5 over this, but overall his is a great game, ill be sure to play this for a good, long time to come.
