Long Overdue...
Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is utterly brilliant. Fans of the series will undoubtedly spot all their favourite characters from the cartoons and graphic novels and from the outset, every last one of them has been faithfully reproduced right on your PS2. The landscapes fit in perfectly, the sounds are spot on and most importantly, the game mechanics are brilliant. the fighting in this game cannot really be compared to any other, its kind of like mixing war of the monsters with guilty gear X, as in, you get sprawling 3D landscapes to fight in and the tempo of the battles is bordering on the ridiculous. Pulling off 36 hit combos in a matter of seconds and ending the flurry by smacking your adversary a good 200 metres across rolling ground and just to rub salt into the wound, slapping them with a kamehameha blast before they land leaves you with an oddly satisfying feeling. Fans of the series know, this is as it should be. For anyone not familiar with the DBZ series, theres plenty of stuff here for you too. Endless unlockables to customize your characters, a lengthy (although admittedly repetitive) story mode to play through, tournaments to win and all kinds of other stuff to get in to and i haven't even brought up the multi player yet. Multi player is much the same as the standard one on one fighting but with a split screen twist. Given the nature of the game i though split screen wouldn't of worked but i have to say, i was pleasantly surprised. all in all, DBZ: BT 2 is definitely, without question, the BEST representation of a Dragonball Z fight i have ever seen and a great arcade fighter in its own right.
