Best DBZ game since Budokai 3. Dragonball Z + Wii mote? Yes please.
People must already be familiar with DBZ Budokai Tenkachi games, Atari tries to emulate the anime series action while at the same time, they try to create a solid, fighting gaming atmosphere without pushing the genre to the extremes.
Why do I have such a positive opinion about BT3 and why do I think it's the best in the Tenkaichi series? The answer is simple. Wii mote.
Adding the Wii mote to a DBZ game was the best idea Atari could have to improve the series. I seriously think Tenkaichi series are made for Wii Motes, while the old school Budokai series, are made for gamepads.
Honestly, Budokai Tenkachi 1 and 2 for the PS2 were nothing special, the game was confusing and boring with a gamepad, but now... It's different. It's fun and it gives you the extra "exercise" your body needs ;) Yes, because it's a bit tiresome, you will sweat a bit.
Analyzing it further....
- Gameplay: The strong point on this game. Tenkaichi series have a great synergy with the Wii mote and the great amount of game modes will keep entertained for a long time. The story and all cutscenes are very loyal to the series, and almost all characters are available to kick some ass, even though there lacks balance between them, but that would keep the game less loyal to the whole series. I guess the bad thing it's the online mode. Yes, expect lag, a lot of lag, if you even find any opponent to battle.
Gameplay: 10/10
- Sound: Ok, good things first as usual, thank god they have the japanese dub. I am a deep, deep, american dub hater and japanese dubs are yes please for me, however there is something missing...
WHY DO THE JAPANESE VERSION HAVE SUCH A COOL SOUNDTRACK AND WE MUST HAVETHE AMERICAN BULL@#$%?!
Seriously, that's the game weak point. Japanese soundtrack have the same soundtrack the original anime had. I can't say the american soundtrack have some cool songs, indeed they have, but there's just no compairson...
Sound: 8/10
- Graphism: Great. It fits the Dragonball universe. Although it could be better, I wouldn't consider these graphics bad. Anyway, I don't have pretty much nothing else to say about them...
...Burst Limit beats this game in graphism, but that's all.
Graphism: 9/10
In conclusion, Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the best fighting game for the Wii in my opinion, the only flaws it has it's the Online mode, the soundtrack of the european/american version and you might not like it if you're not a DBZ fan.
However, if you don't care about the music or the online mode and you're a DBZ fan (or even if you aren't and do not care about playing a DBZ game) and want to kick some ass, with all powerful energy beams with your wii mote, then this game is perfect for you.
Overall: 9.1
