Best Dragon Ball Z game to date.

User Rating: 9 | Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 PS2
Year after year the legions of Dragon Ball Z fans are treated to yet another DBZ game with each one surpassing the previous one. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is no different from that trend. This is indeed the ultimate Dragon Ball Z game to date and delivers so much fan service that its not even funny. Read on.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 features the largest roster of characters ever in a DBZ game each with their own moves and unique style. The also features many stages with the option to play it at different times of the day (night, noon, afternoon etc). Also it has more destructable environments compared to last games and this is a nice little touch. The also has many of the same game modes from the last game like the World tournament, Ultimate Battle mode etc. Yes, this game does a story mode but this is the games only weakness.

Story mode this year is a huge cutback when you compare it to DBZ Budokai Tenkachi 2 which had nearly every fight from the anime/movies that you could think of. This time we only get the major battles which isn't a bad thing but I feel as though the developer cut corners this time. Story mode basically tries to do something new here but in my opinion it just doesn't work. You have the choice to play out a battle like how it was in the anime or change it up. Sure changing it up is all good but when you do things different you only get a one line sentence from the guy you were playing as and that is the end of the level. Yes, sometimes cool things happen but there are very few of them in the story mode. I won't go into that here you gotta find those out for yourself. Yes you can still collect Dragon Balls but this time there is no Dragon radar. You actually have to fly around on the actually battle stage and crash into things until you get it. If you don't mind doing that then you won't have a problem with unlocking a majority of the games content. you need the balls to unlock most of the stages and some of the best characters in the game.

Now I'm going to talk about the other game modes. World tournament is done differently. You can't just pick what Tournament you want to enter. You have to wait until it "opens" before you can start it and when you do pick it you can't change the difficulty level. That is a huge problem because four of the characters in the game are unlocked from the different Tournaments played on certain difficulty levels. Ok now Ultimate battle is very different from the last game. You get sim dragon mode and mission mode. Sim dragn lets you pick one character and level him/her up for seven fights. Trust me its a lot harder then it sounds. Mission mode basically just has you play against certain characters.

Final note: This game is good. Get it now and I recommend getting it for the Wii. Yes wii has online play but it lags like hell right now and I don't ever think its getting fixed.
